More Training and Procrastination

So, it's been a while.  Mustly because I have too many projects going.  It's hard to get "metaphysical" about training and learning when the world is chalk full of stuff that must get done...but enough excuses.

I get to take a class next month.  I'll spend a few days at the USDA Grad School in Washington, DC.  It's a class called "Managing Training for Results."  Yes, even trainers have to learn about management...sigh.  I'm hoping it will give good insight into planning and managing programs as opposed to individual courses.  That really is the challenge too, moving from single class management to multi-course, multi-disciplinary, life-long learning.

Just some background information to this situation:

I am in the Air Force.  I am a career field training manager.  I have oversight of training for approximately 1100 people.  Their initial training is from 3-5 years long.  Then I have to figure out how to grow and sustain that force (individuals) for up to 20 or 30 years.  Challenging...

So, now you might have an idea why I'm looking at these foundational/driving concepts.  I often ask myself, "are we doing the right thing?  Does this training fit?  Do we really need to know that?  What else do we need to know?"  So, Sometimes I get behind on the thoughts as I work through the daily grind and mechanics of this job.

Did I mention is is rewarding and fun?
